CHARLES M. PAYNE
HICKORY – Charles Mitchell "Mitch" Payne, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Tracy City, TN after losing his battle with cancer, on January 11, 2012.
Born March 5, 1946 in Tracy City, TN, he was the son of the late Earl Edward and Martha Adele Lankford Payne. Mitch was an Army Ranger who served 2 tours in Vietnam. While in the Army, he was a Drill Sergeant, licensed pilot, and a Paratrooper who served in the 173rd, 101st, and 509th jumpers. He received the Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts, and many more medals.
Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Payne of Tracy City, TN; daughter, Charlie Payne of Hickory; sons, Jeff Wright and wife Lisa of Hickory, and Eddy Wright and wife Holly of GA; grandchildren, Brittany & Ryan Heckathorn, Jordan & Tiffany Wright, Ella & Emily Avitt; 3 brothers; numerous other family members; special friends, and beloved dog, CJ.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January, 15, 2012 at 2 PM at Catawba, Funerals & Cremations.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2PM.
Interment will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10am at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
