Charlotte passed away at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, Fl at the age of 85 on March 12, 2009. Charlotte was born to Edward B. and Martha L Waddell in West Des Moines, IA on December 20, 1923.

Charlotte graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, and then began work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator. She met a farmer from Waukee, Philip Broderick, who turned out to be the love of her life. They married September 24, 1949. The two made a home in Waukee and have since worked together to improve their lives, those of their family and that of the community itself. Charlotte has long been a dedicated supporter of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a member of the Rosary Society and many years as the coordinator of religious education. During her life she was very active in the 4-H program, working with many youths in the county. Charlotte had a passion for art and trained herself to be an accomplished artist. She also enjoyed reading, golf (the fellowship, not the game), bridge club, traveling, gardening and watching her family develop and grow.

Charlotte will be missed by her husband of 59 years Phil, her eight children Renae (Douglas Bordeweick) of Rye, NH, Diane (Jim Russell) of Poulsbo, WA, Tim (Teresa) of Waukee, IA, Mike (Shelley) of Des Moines, IA, Brian (Cheryl) of Columbus, NE, Kathy (David) Quam of Mahtomedi, MN, John (Barb) of Waukee, IA, and Bridget (Paul D'Amato) of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, her in-laws Marilyn and Don Duwelius, Sr. Carola Broderick BVM as well as seven nieces and nephews. Her mother, father and sister, Rita, preceded her in death.

Visitation begins at 3pm Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm with a vigil service at 7pm. A 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be h eld Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. Friends of the family may send donations to St. Boniface Catholic Church or Dowling Catholic High School.
