Brattleboro- Charlotte Ruth Young, 78, a former resident of Auger Hole Road died Tuesday morning, December 6, 2011 at the Thompson House following a period of declining health. Mrs. Young was born in Halifax, Vermont on August 31, 1933 the daughter of Osmond and Ruth Dalrymple Mason. She was raised and educated in Halifax where she attended public school. For many years she had been employed as a welder for Kohler Manufacturing Company of Marlboro, Massachusetts retiring in 1996. Previously she worked at the former American Optical Company in Brattleboro. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed playing BINGO, fishing and time shared with her family especially her grandchildren. A special great granddaughter "Destiny" was the apple of her eye. On May 1, 1954 in Brattleboro she was married to Robert D. Young who predeceased her in 1995. Survivors include two sons, Robert Young, Jr of Hinsdale and his former wife, Mary Ellen Young of Bellows Falls, Alan Young and his wife Barbara of Marlboro, two daughters, Theresa Powling and husband Robert of Marlboro and Juanita Young also of Marlboro, one brother, Roger Mason of Keene, a sister, Shirley Leary of Brattleboro, nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Additionally she leaves a special sister-in-law, Minnie Mason of Hinsdale and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother Stanley Mason and a grandson, Clifford Young. Graveside committal services will be conducted on Friday at 11:30 A.M. in the Young family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hinsdale where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home this evening, (Thursday) from 7 to 9 P.M. A prayer service will be held at 8:45 P.M.
