Funeral services for Cheyenne Fiddler, 23, of Red Wing, Minnesota, former Rapid City resident and Cheyenne River Tribal member, will be Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 11:00AM, MDT, at the Lakota Cultural Center, Eagle Butte, with Jerome LeBeaux officiating. Burial will follow at Mossman Cemetery, under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home, Mobridge. Casketbearers were Skush Hamilton, Chris Whipple, Novi Smith Runs Above, Reuben Crow Feather, Sr., A.J. Redman, Ronnie Good Eagle, Jr., Cody Rowan and Steve Charging Eagle II. We will meet at the 4-mile Jct. at 4:00 PM, Tuesday to process to the cultural center for wake services beginning at 7:00PM. Cheyenne entered the spirit world July 27, 2012 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
Cheyenne Terrisse Fiddler, "Cante Ohitika Win" (Brave Hearted Woman) was born June 4, 1989 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota to Terry & Marcy (Garreau) Fiddler. She entered the spirit world July 27, 2012 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
Cheyenne achieved many accomplishments throughout her young life. She danced before she could walk. She was known as a champion northern traditional dancer. Cheyenne has been a member of the Oyaté Cikala Dance Team from Cheyenne Eagle Butte Elementary School and the Discover Native American Dance Troupe (DNA) where she performed at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia with her family. She has traveled throughout Indian country competing in the Northern Traditional dance category, in which she won a lot of 1st place awards since the age of 4.
Cheyenne attended school at Cheyenne Eagle Butte Elementary, Eagle Butte, SD, Hollywood, FL, Mesa, AZ and Rapid City, SD where she was active in the Indian Club and also had many academic achievements. She was known for her beautiful smile, outgoing personality and gracious heart. She could light up a room with her smile. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Cheyenne is survived by her 4 year old daughter, Darlyn; her parents, Terry & Darcy; her sisters, Alva, Darcy and Joe, Jasmine, Lacey and Tara; her nephews, Wakinyan, Tracy and Terence; her uncle Travis along with many aunties, uncles, grandmas, grandpas and cousins.
Cheyenne was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Tracy & Alva Hope Garreau and her maternal grandfather, Leonard Fiddler along with other family & friends.
