Chris was born in Ames August 6, 1967 to Charles and Patricia (Dankel) Covell. He attended Gilbert Community Schools where he graduated in 1985. He went on to attend Iowa State University graduating in 1989 with a BA in Music. He taught in Maple Valley from 1989-1993 before returning to Gilbert where he has been the Gilbert High School Band Director for 19 years. Chris married Pamela Orth May 28, 1994 in Ames.

He was a member of the Iowa Bandmaster's Association, SCIBA, and First United Methodist Church, Ames.

Chris is survived by his wife, Pamela of Ames; parents, Chuck and Patricia Covell of Ames; brother, Chuck and his wife Shannon Covell of Ossian; niece, Amy Covell and nephew, Austin Covell, both of Ossian; sister and brother-in-law, Kirsten and Tim Alexander of Des Moines; niece, Madelina Alexander of Des Moines; mother and father-in-law, LeRoy and Laverna Orth of Ames; cousin, Chuck and his wife, Sue Butt of Hampton; and uncle, Merle Butt of Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Martha Covell and George and Catherine Dankel; cousin, Lynne Hansen; and aunt, Delores Butt.
