In Loving Memory

Lt. Christopher Glenn McOMBER Chris died July 3, 2009, of cancer. He was 44 years old. During his life, Chris made an indelible mark on the many people he met, and his family and friends will miss him immensely. Although Chris's loss is deeply painful, he is now with Christ and no longer suffering. Chris was an exceptionally talented police officer and an avid fisherman, hunter and storyteller. But above all else, he was a devoted father to his three children and committed husband to Karla. Chris loved to brag endlessly about his children's accomplishments in sports, school and life. Chris was born in Fresno, Calif., on Oct. 12, 1964, the second of James and Beverly McOmber's three sons. He grew up in Bellevue, Wash., and graduated from Newport High School in 1982. He met, fell in love with and married Karla Olson in 1986. After several years as a commercial diver, Chris joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1990. The family returned home in 1994, when Chris was hired by the Bellevue Police Department. Over the years, he worked as an undercover narcotics officer, a field training officer and a member of the SWAT team. He was promoted to lieutenant and helped lead the bomb squad. This year, Chris received the department's commander's award for his outstanding service. Chris is survived by his wife, Karla; his three children: Brendan, Britta and Karl; his parents, James and Beverly McOmber; his brothers, Dennis (Karen) and Martin (Deborah) McOmber; and the entire McOmber and Olson families. A memorial service will be held noon Thursday at Northlake Christian Church, 19029 North Road, Bothell. For more information, please visit http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/chrismccomber.
