Mr. Christopher Pongratz, 82 of Hanover died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. The son of the late Simon and Anna Pongratz, he was born in Hungary on January 4, 1927. He was raised and educated in Hungary and moved to the US in 1956. Mr. Pongratz was a member of the Hungarian Freedom Fighters and was Knighted in Budapest in 2004 for his role in the Hungarian Revolution. He was the owner of Pongratz Brother's Appliance Repair. He is survived by his wife Jean M. (Curry) Pongratz, 2 sons, Christopher S. Pongratz and George S. Pongratz of Hanover, 3 daughters, Aniko M. Pongratz of Raymond ME, Kristina M. Hurley of Hanover and Rebecca P. Schwarz of Hanover, 3 brothers, Edmund and Balint Pongratz both of Hanover and Andrew Pongratz of Phoenix AZ, 1 sister, Maria Festa of Pembroke and 13 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Simon, Anna, Erno and Gergely. Funeral Mass on Monday at 10 AM in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Sunday from 1-5 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, MA 02472.
