DATELINE GREENWOOD CHRIS TURNER Christopher Scott Turner, 22, resident of 1225 Mathis Road #1 and the Clemson University Campus in Clemson, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at MUSC University Hospital in Charleston. Born in Greenwood August 21, 1987, he was a son of Cynthia Ward Pettus and James Scott Turner. Chris was a 2005 graduate of Greenwood High School where he was a member of the ROTC. He was a senior at Clemson University where he majored in Health Sciences for Pre Med and was honored on the 2008-2009 Fall Semester President’s List. Chris loved attending Clemson football games. He had a passion for music and was an avid guitarist. He was a member of North Greenwood Church of God. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Walter Scott Pettus; infant sister, Julia Pettus; and paternal grandmother, Brenda Turner. Surviving, in addition to his mother of the home and his father of Florida is a brother, Seth Pettus and sister, Olivia Pettus, both of the home; two other sisters, both of Elberton; maternal grandmother, Faye Ward of the home; maternal grandfather, Walter Ward of Hodges; maternal great-grandmother, Naomi Turner Ward of Greenwood; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Nancy and Alvin Steading of Simpsonville; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Don and June Turner of Ninety Six; step-grandparents, Clyde and Sandra Pettus of Dacula, GA; uncles, Ken Turner of Ninety Six and Ricky Pettus of Atlanta; aunts, Angie Ward and Debbie Goldman of Greenwood, Donna Calliham of Ninety Six and Wendy Culbertson of Gainesville, GA. Many cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Richard Saxon officiating. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chad Echols, Trent Johnson, Ray Roton, Zach Bell, Richie Saxon, Alex Golden and Rick Lyons. Honorary escort will be Barry Boggero and Jeff Timmerman. The family is at the home of Jill and Kellar Lawrence, 703 Saddle Hill Road and will receive friends Friday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
