Zurman, Christopher Scott, "Chris", 28, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011. He was born in St Petersburg, Florida. He worked as a Fire Sprinkler Inspector. He was a car enthusiast and loved music. He is survived by his wife Kristen, daughter Hayley, parents Randy and Shirley Zurman, sisters April Pape and Cindy Zurman, and numerous loving extended family members. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 1/3 at 6:00PM at the Temple of the Living God, 1950 2nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Hayley's educational fund which will soon be established.

As Kristen’s parents, we’re relatively new additions to Chris’s family.

I remember the first time we met Chris. We could sense the spark between Chris and Kristen, and thought to ourselves, this could be "the one". We saw him a couple of more times passing through the house in the next month or so, then the two of them came to us with sheepish grins...Kristen and Chris were going to be parents. They were excited about the news, and already making plans for the future, so that was great.

Chris and Kris were great prospective parents, learning about parenthood and preparing for the big day. As the big day neared, Hayley was eager to be born...but the doctors said that she wasn't ready yet. Kristen had a couple of weeks of bed rest, and Chris's sisters and friends held a baby shower for her. That was the first time the families all got together.

Hayley was born on November 10, 2010, and at Christmas, Chris and Kristen announced their plans to marry. Their wedding day this past July came quickly. It hard to believe that joyous day was less than six months ago.

We were so impressed with Chris's drive to provide for his new family. He was very proud that he had mastered multiple certifications in the fire sprinkler industry, and often worked extensive overtime to help supplement the family’s income. He had plans for eventually setting up their own company and working together in the sprinkler business.

We learned a new use and pronunciation of the word “Sweet”. In normal usage, “Sweet” goes with “Tea” or “Potatoes”. Chris used it to describe something he liked, but he stretched it out saying it, as “Sweee-eeee-tt!”.

Chris loved working on and driving his cars. Last May, we rented a cabin in the North Carolina mountains for a family get-together. One evening, everyone was out on the porch watching the sun go down behind the mountains; except Chris, who was down in the garage changing the oil on the car. That trip, Chris was able to run his car on the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina.

We found out a little more about his enthusiasm for cars when the family gathered at the funeral home to make arrangements. The funeral director asked what type of cars he liked, and April said "rice cars". Well, I think both the director and I thought "race cars" and that April had a little stronger accent than we realized...but April explained what she meant.

His true love and dedication were for Kristen and Hayley. Kristen said many times that she had never been happier. It is just so unfair that Chris's time with her was so short.

We'll all miss him. We’ll all have some great memories of him.

And Chris, son, don’t worry about Kristen and Hayley…they will be surrounded and supported by family and friends forever.

Chris, I remember the first time I met you so vividly because I thought you were a horrid pain in the ass and a very hyper one at that. It was Halloween and April and I were charged with taking you around the neighborhood with us trick or treating. I don't remember you actually WALKING a single step. You were so full of energy that you bounded and jumped and sprang around everywhere, but never walked and like any little brother of a friend, my general impression was that it was so uncool to have to hang out with you.

I'm glad I got the chance eventually to know how truly cool you really were. You had a unique sensitivity to the world and to your friends and family. When I had no one to talk to, no one I could relate to, you were there and you listened and you may have laughed a little, but only because you were teaching me to lighten up and laugh a little myself.

I remember the seemingly most unimportant details of time we shared together; creating songs, watching your saxophone performance when you were in middle school, you getting kicked out of stores in the mall for trying on dresses, borrowing my Cradle of Filth CD and getting it taken away by your teacher, the entire night you spent comforting me when I found out my first boyfriend was cheating on me, and girls mobbing you at April's sleep over and doing your hair and nails like you were a life-sized boy barbie doll. Mostly, I remember your smile. You hated smiling a full smile because you were sensitive about your teeth, but you had the most beautiful, infectious smile. No one could be unhappy around you for long.

Thanks for everything. Most importantly, thanks for making me go on that beer run with Mike 8 years ago. You shoved me out the door behind him and locked it so that I had no choice but to go and because of that, I've had a very happy marriage for the past 7 years and have enjoyed being a mother for the past three.

Chris, a part of my heart will always be with you. I regret the years that lapsed between us, but you were never far from my thoughts. I was glad to know that you found happiness with a wife and a baby girl. I always wanted the best for you and I'm happy that you had it.

When I think of you now I a see you skating down the 'lake' towards me with a goofy smile on your face. Our relationship never grew past late childhood and I'm now glad for that. We saw each other for who we were and we loved each other for that. You accepted me and made fun of me. Thank you. I needed that teasing. You were a great friend. Please know I knew that.
