Thank you everyone for coming today to celebrate and remember my father, Dr. Christopher Hee or more fondly known as Chris or simply "Doc" to many of you. I know my family has been deeply touched by your love, words of encouragement and sympathy, or just a simple gesture showing you care. For all the calls, flowers, and e-mails over the last week, it means very much to us and especially my mom. So thank you.

My father was many things to me. He was my doctor whom I confided on all decisions related to health, my constant guide and counselor whom I could called upon at all times, my biggest cheerleader in life who celebrated all my achievement big and small....but most of all, besides the love of my life Teresa, he was my best friend. He taught me what it meant to be a man, to be a good husband, and how to be a friend to everyone. He will always be to me a man of character…how he lived with honesty, honor and integrity with a strong sense of responsibility to family and friends.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said "The high prize of life, the crowning fortune of man, is to be born with a bias to some pursuit which finds him in employment and happiness."

It seems appropriate as I reflect upon his life from the times he was in Malaysia to the early years in the US to these last years of his life. Through this journey he found happiness in the simplicity which he lived with the purpose of finding dignity in living and to have the few things in life he so cherish…his grand children, mom, us, badminton, steam fish and black bean crabs, his closest friends and the MEPs.

In work he found tremendous sense of pride in the MEPs and the work he did with all of you. I think most of us want to feel useful and to be good at something. Dad found this in the MEPs. I often asked him why he continued to work when he could spend more time with the family. He would say that he wouldn’t know what to do with his time when he wasn’t with us. But it was more than that, it was important to him as a man to work, be useful, and have purpose. However, he never said it but he found more than a sense of purpose at the MEPs. He found lasting friends…caring people with the same sense of duty and honor. He was proud to work at the MEPs and as you know it showed in the work he did. No shortcuts or as we say in Malaysia “tak chin-chai chin-chai”….loosely translated…sloppy. He loved you all. So, thank you Commander and all the wonderful friends at the MEPs for your kind support and thoughts.

In happiness, he found life with mom tremendously fulfilling and happier these past years. She was his life partner for 46 years and a person who knew his bests and his warts. I know he cherished his time with mom and it will be difficult for her without him by her side. But, my mom is the strongest woman I know and she will continue on as she most undoubtedly will with the same enthusiasm and courage she’s always has. We love you mom and dad will always be by you in everything. You’ll finally get to drag him to all the trips you’ve always wanted to go on and now he can’t complain.

In happiness, he found his grand children and always marveling over little things they did. Olivia, Julian, Evelyn, and Isla. He would always enthusiastically call and try to find out how you were. How are they? How is school? Are they sick? Did they eat yet?...he would ask… I know it was his way of showing how much he missed you. You will miss your special time with Kung-kung but we will make sure you remember how wonderful he was and how much he loved you.

In happiness, he found his beloved badminton. The challenge the sport gave him and where he was happiest at times playing. Most importantly, Badminton gave him the opportunity to meet many wonderful friends and spoke admiringly of each of you.

In happiness, he found his friends who shared meals in conversations discussing life, love, heartbreaks, and moments of joy. He would speak about each of you fondly and how much he respected each of you.

The late Senator Ted Kennedy wrote to the families of 9-11 ten years ago, "As you know so well, the passage of time never really heals the tragic memory of such a great loss, but we carry on, because we have to, because our loved one would want us to, and because there is still light to guide us in the world from the love they gave us."

So we carry on as my father would have wanted us to. He has gone home now, guided by the faith he has in God and those of us who love him. I said to him the last night we were together that we will see him again and until that day we will live our lives remembering him and the decency in which he lived. Farewell for now dad, until we meet again…you’ll be in our hearts and we love you always.

It seems like I have known Dr Hee for a long time because we got on so well since I joined MEPS in Jan 2011. We had so many things in common. He is always giving advice, and this reminds me of my father. I still cannot believe he is no longer with us. Rest in peace, DOC.

There were 3 things that were important to Chris.#1 is family and friends.#2 is food (lots of FOOD).#3 is badminton. Chris has always been like a dad to me. He would make sure that I was okay when I had my knee surgeries. He was always concerned about me not eating properly when I had my exams. He even scraped the glue off my wood floor after the big flood in my home. Chris said "that was an ordeal" - and I agreed. On the badminton court, Chris could play with people half his age and still kept up with them. He would put the younger players to shame. I will miss Chris as a father figure, miss all the talks about various badminton racquets! He was simply the best.

We were blessed to have met both Chris ("Dad") and Rosita ("Mom") many years ago through their daughters who are my sisters at heart, Marianne and Vivienne. Their zest for life and love for family was apparent from the very first moment. They took me, my husband and our three kids into their hearts, as we took them. We were blessed with many happy moments over elaborate, tasty meals and celebrations which we will never forget. As we will never forget when he toasted Marianne's wedding and used Harold and I as an example of a strong marriage. It was an enormous complement and we only hope to continue to live up to it! Thanks Dad...May you sleep with the angels, and watch over us...we will never forget you.

Dr. Hee was a precious gem. I often told this to other MEPS Commanders, so much so that I think I almost lost him to a North Carolina MEPS. I am grateful for Dr. Hee's dedication and loyalty to his family and to his Tampa MEPS family. He always put others first, working long hours and going to other MEPS if his assistance was needed. What I admired most is his willingness to take time to explain things to applicants. He treated each one of them as a person, not as a nametag or a file. I had the honor in working with Doc Hee from Mar 2008 - October 2010. If anyone can teach you the value of dedication it would be Dr. Hee, everyday he came to work he made sure that every young man and woman that came though the MEPs to process for the military was treated respectfully and well taken care of as he would his own children. Even years after these young men and woman join the military they would remeber him when they came through the MEPs. When we spoke he always spoke his family and the reason he worked was for them, reminded me of my own father. He was truly a great man, father, husband and mentor. He will be missed.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Hee from 1988 through 1991. From the moment I met him, I knew he was SPECIAL. He was a consummate professional and the pride he exuded daily was unequivocally phenomenal. He was the kind of Chief Medical Officer that “EVERY” MEPS Commander longed for, and even now I thank GOD that I was fortunate enough to have him on my staff! NO ONE loved their Job and the MEPS Family more than “DOC” … he was the “Best of the Best”!

There were so many great moments shared with DOC Hee during my tenure at Tampa MEPS, but what is most special to me is the mutual admiration and continued friendship that emerged subsequently. I fondly consider “Doc Chris” and his wife Rose as my brother and sister.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Hee. Every time that I came to him to talk, he will sit and listen to me. He would say to me, "Ana don't worry things are going to be just fine you'll see". I will always remmeber him. My deepest sympathy to his wife and family.

Dr. Hee will be truly missed. Words can not explain what a loss USMEPCOM has suffered.
No one will be able to fill these shoes.
I went to work for Dr. Hee April 1993. When I met him, he instill in me to always do your best.
We both had the same work ethics so we got alone great!!He always gave me sound advice, and I took notes. Dr. Hee was like my father away from home.
I saw him as my second dad.
We love him, but God love him best.

Dr. Hee was an individual that took pride in everything he did - his medical profession, his work at the MEPS, and his love for badminton. He loved his family unconditionally and bragged about how it was HIS job to spoil his grandkids:-) Dr. Hee never turned his back on anyone, he was always willing to help whenever help was needed. I will personally miss how his eyes would light up whenever he spoke of his family and his upcoming Badminton Tournaments. Dr. Hee will be missed beyond what words can possibly describe! Dr. Hee was a superstar and a mentor to many across all of the Military Entrance Processing Command - he set the stage for others to follow!
