Mrs. Claire (Rando) Collins, 84 years of Nahant died peacefully on Saturday December 22, 2012, at the home of her daughter and surrounded by her loving family. She is the wife of Sergeant Arthur H. Collins, a long serving member of the Nahant Police Department for 30 years. Claire was born in Nahant, the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine (Lopes) Rando. She was raised in Nahant and graduated from Lynn English High School. She lived in Lynn for many years before returning to Nahant in 1959. After graduating from The Mansfield Beauty Academy, Claire worked as a Beautician for the Lynn Devlan Convalescent Home for 20 years. She was also famously known for her cake baking and decorating skills. Claire designed and made many wedding and birthday cakes for friends and family. In addition, Claire was a pitcher in the Nahant Softball League. She was a member of the Bass Point Boat Club, the Nahant Planning Board and also served on the Nahant Historical Society and Friends of the Nahant Library. Upon retirement, Claire spent the winters in Ft Myers, Florida with her husband and served as the "Queen Mother" of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society. In addition to her husband with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, Claire leaves her loving and devoted children, Steve Collins and his wife Beverly of East Hampstead, NH, Michael Collins and his wife Barbara of Nahant, her daughter Colleen Prue and her husband William of Lynnfield, her grandchildren, Shannon, Brandon, Shaun, Jeffrey and Kurt, her great grandchildren, Ashton, Dillon, and Brianna. She also leaves her brother, Edmond Rando and his wife Ann of Estero, Florida and several nieces and nephews. She is the sister of the late Thomas Rando. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte 1A) Lynn at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant at 10:00 AM Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan Street Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923
