Clara Ward Evans Moore Pierce, age 83, a longtime resident of Chesapeake, VA, passed away in her home on June 15, 2011. Mrs. Pierce was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church where she was actively involved with her Sunday School and in the Senior Ministries. She worked for Stanley Home Products and retired from the Customer Service Division of the Chesapeake Public Utilities. Mrs. Pierce was born in Nakina, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Ward and Fettie Bell Watts Ward. She was also preceded in death by former husband, Curtis Evans of Florida; and devoted husband Jimmy Moore of Chesapeake, VA; her son, E. Morgan Evans also of Chesapeake, VA; one sister, Vera Herring of Tennessee; three brothers, Floyd Ward and Lloyd Ward, both of North Carolina and Gilbert Ward of Wisconsin. Mrs. Pierce is survived by husband, Artwell Pierce, sons, C. Roger Evans and G. Scott Evans, and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Evans, all of Chesapeake, VA. Mrs. Pierce is survived by her grandson, Curtis R. Evans, Jr., wife Kim and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Sydney of Swansboro, NC. She is also survived by step-children and spouses, Lucy Pierce Fink and husband Jimmy of Chesapeake, VA, Capi Pierce Chapman and husband Dennis of Leonardtown, MD, David Pierce and wife Joi of San Antonio, TX; as well as six step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. One brother, Virgil V. Ward of Whiteville, NC also survives and her cherished aunt, Mrs. Ruth Lee of Whiteville, NC and dear niece Dr. Sherry Shroyer and husband Dennis of Cleveland, TN. The funeral service will be Saturday 12:30 p.m., at Great Bridge Baptist Church with Rev. Charles L Mosley, Rev. Ramon M. Owens and Rev. David Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Great Bridge Baptist Building Fund, 640 Battlefield Blvd S., Chesapeake, VA 23322 or Gideons International, Chesapeake East Camp, PO Box 1051, Chesapeake, VA 23327. Arrangements are by the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel.
