Mr. Clifford G. Beckford, a longtime resident of Melrose, died on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was 89 years old.
Clifford was born on September 29, 1921 in Melrose, a son of the late George Beckford and Viola (Greenleaf) Beckford.
He was raised in Melrose where he graduated from Melrose High School. He worked as a car insurance appraiser and claims adjuster for many years. He also owned and operated an auto body shop in Saugus with his late brother, Larry.
Cliff was a member of the Converse Lodge AF&AM in Malden. He enjoyed horseshoes, playing cards, and camping. He was also especially well known for his love of talking and will be remembered as a great conversationalist.
Mr. Beckford was the beloved husband of the late Mary A. (Brewster) Beckford. Devoted father of Susan Amiss and her husband Brooke of Moultonboro, NH, Judy Dami and her husband John of Woburn, Sandra McLaurin of Melrose, Kip W. Beckford and his wife Rosemary of Laconia, NH, Terry MacKay and her husband Wayne of Melrose, Mark Beckford of Melrose, Peter Beckford and his wife Susan of Melrose, and Cindy Beckford of Melrose. Dear brother of the late Lawrence, Woodrow and Justin. Cherished grandfather of Brooke Amiss, John Dami, Judy Boone, Julian Dami, Millard McLaurin, Julie Koepke, Kip Beckford, Whitney MacKay, Wayne MacKay, Mark Beckford, Matthew Beckford, Jillian Beckford, Keith Berry, Heather Cook, Christopher Berry, Ronald Mastropietro, Taylor Mastropietro, Brendan Mastropietro and the late Jon W. Olson, Jr. Loving great grandfather of Shannon, Joseph, Julianna, Anthony, Adrianna, Jonathan, Christopher, Zachary, Meredith, Jona, Evan, Aleea, Maguire, Willow, Kayley, Benjamin, Miller, Lindsay, and Lilah.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, April 19 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Gifts in his honor may be made to the Salvation Army, 213 Main St. Malden, MA 02148.
