Clyde Herbert Hatcher, 88 of Arkansas City, KS died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Robert J. Dole Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Ferris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Maple City Cemetery. Friends may greet the family 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Clyde was born March 13, 1925, son of Frederick and Bertha (Jeffrey) Hatcher in Norfolk, Mo. He was reared and educated in Buffalo, Nebraska. In 1943 Clyde joined the US Navy. He served his country during WWII before being honorably discharged in 1946. On December 20, 1945, Clyde married Velda C. Magnus in Sedan, KS. The couple made their home in Cedar Vale then Arkansas City. Clyde worked as a parts manager for Tubbs Motor Company until his retirement. He was a life member of the Spencer Ralston Post #1254 Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and a life member of the American Legion. Survivors include his daughters Irene Myers and husband Dwight of Wellington, KS; Barbara Green of Arkansas City, KS; sister Doris Smith and husband Tom of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Torri Bridges, Angela Krallman and husband Randy all of Leavenworth, KS; Renee Ferguson and husband Tim of Wellington, KS; Melissa Turner and husband Drew of Pueblo, CO; great-grandchildren Derek Shrewsberry, Gavin Gatewood, Dylan Peetom, Jordyn Ferguson, Karly Ferguson, Ethan Turner, great-great-granddaughter Areiana Gatewood, and numerous nieces and nephews. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Velda Hatcher, his parents, and a sister Alice. A memorial has been established for Spencer Ralston Post #1254 Veteran's of Foreign Wars or the Wellington Christian Academy. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
