Clytee Buchanan was born to the late Robert and Rowena Roberson in Buena Vista, MS, on November 14, 1926. She and her twin brother were the youngest of five children. All of her siblings preceded her in death. She expressed a faith and hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Buena Vista. She was reared and educated in the public schools of Buena Vista, MS. In 1946, she married her childhood friend, Vester Buchanan, who preceded her in death. To this union three children were born while in Buena Vista. In 1952, Vester moved the family to St.Louis, MO, to seek better job opportunities. Clytee gave birth to their three youngest children in St. Louis. Two of their sons preceded her in death. Clytee transferred to Central Baptist Church in 2006 from LaSalle United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord with all her heart, her Church, her Pastor-Reverend Scott and her Church family. She looked forward to spending her Sunday mornings in worship giving honor and praise to God in her own way. She was a member of the Women of Central ministry where she enjoyed participating in the monthly meetings. She was inspired by the way the disciples of Central wrapped their arms around her as a new disciple and embraced her with their love. Clytee believed in the power of prayer and strived to instill the discipline of prayer in her children and grandchildren. Clytee was a devoted wife and stayed-at-home Mother. Her family was her number one priority. When her husband, Vester was living in their home at 1455 Arlington, that was the gathering place. On any day of the week, at any time of the day, you could find a flurry of activity at their home with their children and grandchildren coming and going. She always had a meal cooked and a few dollars for whoever needed it. She dedicated her life to the support of her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a good listening ear and everyone who knew her;and everyone who knew they could feel confident that their secret was safe with her. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved being around her. Being in her presence brought a feeling of warmth and security that was hard to describe. Clytee transitioned to her eternal home on February 5, 2011. She leaves to cherish her memory: four children-Gloria Givens (Donald), Alvin, Robert (Veronica) and Linda Buchanan; her other children-Regina and Kelvin Baucom, Ethel Buchanan and Cheyene Thompson; four sisters-in-law, Corena Thomas, Lorraine Templeton, Faye Gillespie and Mallie Brown; nine grandchildren; Monique Buchanan, Tracee Buchanan, Wilma White (Walter) Nycolle Stelly, Alvin Jr. (Shaneca) Aletha, Robert Jr., Ronald and Roland Buchanan. One grandchild, Muriel Buchanan, and one great-great grandchildren, Alvin Buchanan III preceded her in death. Also left to cherish her memory are 25 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
