Conceicao (Connie) Freitas, 92, left this earth to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan 31 2011, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Born May 24, 1918 in Gaula, Madeira, Portugal, Connie left to live in Brazil for several years before immigrating to the United States in 1968. Living in Connecticut, Connie worked many years for Aetna Insurance before retiring and returning to her beloved homeland, the beautiful island of Madeira. Following the death of her husband, Jose, Connie left Madeira and arrived in Virginia Beach to live and became a faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jose Freitas; and daughter, Rosa Maria. Left to cherish Connie's memory are sisters, Rosa Nunes and Gloria Goes; sons, Jose and Maurcio Freitas; daughters, Mary Jo Freitas and Maria Fatima Cromwell; son-in-law, Joe Cromwell; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends, all who came to love this special and beautiful woman who brought much joy to all our lives. A service will be held Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Rd in Virginia Beach. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to assist the St. Nicholas Catholic Church parable project, 712 Little Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
