TANCIK - Corey Tancik passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Feb. 2, 2012, at the age of 55. He was born on April 5, 1956, in Salt Lake City, UT and grew up in Boulder, CO. Corey graduated from Colorado State University in 1979 and the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1985. He completed residency and fellowship training at UNM in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He then worked in private practice and in public health in Albuquerque and Los Angeles County, CA., and on the faculty of the University of Arkansas for Health Sciences, Little Rock, AR, before returning to Albuquerque. He has worked in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at UNM and VA hospitals since 2001. Corey was a highly-regarded clinician, teacher and administrator. Corey loved being a doctor and felt privileged to be entrusted with his patient's care. He will be remembered for the superb care he provided for his patients, his steadfast commitment to medical education, and for his devotion to his religious faith and family. Corey had wonderful experiences traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico, Central America and Egypt with his family. He enjoyed bicycling, running, hiking, and swimming. Corey was preceded in death by his father, William F. Tancik. He is survived by his mother, Betty Tancik (Loveland, CO); wife of 22 years, Carla Wilson; children, Matthew and Stephen; sister, Deborah Tancik (Sonoma, CA); brothers, Dan Tancik and wife Debra Tancik (Fort Collins, CO), and Gary Tancik (Lakewood, CO); and nieces and nephews: Nicole, Taylor, Mitchell, Gabrielle, Erick, Cresta, Thomas, Robert, Eamonn, Cameron, Daichi, Zoe, Mimi, and Clint. Our family has been touched by the outpouring of support from Corey's friends, colleagues, and patients. It is heartwarming for us to witness the love and respect which so many had for him. Corey possessed many outstanding qualities, but his keen wit, conviction, and strong moral character will be especially missed. We have all been blessed that Corey was a part of our lives. Interment will be in Colorado following a private service in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 7550 Eubank Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122, or to the American Heart Association (https//donate.americanheart.org).
