Courtney S. Vickery, 86, of Aurora formerly of Fort Collins, passed away September 5, 2006. Courtney was born September 11, 1919 in Billings, Montana to Herbert and Marian (Johnston) Ashton. After graduating high school, she went to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for 2 years. On June 15, 1941 Courtney was united in marriage to Bert Vickery Jr. in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was a homemaker for most of her life, and had the full time job of raising her four boys. Courtney enjoyed outdoor activities including cross country skiing and hiking and was also an avid bridge player. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopalian Church in Fort Collins, where she had lived for 29 years before moving to Aurora. Courtney is survived by her husband of 65 years Bert Vickery Jr. of the VA Nursing Home at Fitzsimons in Aurora; three sons, John J. Vickery of Steamboat Springs, CO, Thomas A. Vickery (Lee) of Tucson, AR and Brian Vickery (Cindy) of Clearwater, FL; one brother, Charles F. Ashton of Ft. Meyers, FL; one sister, Marian J. Emmons (Frank) of Hastings, NE; four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son William and her sister Marjorie. A memorial service will be held for the family at Colorado State VA Nursing Home at Fitzsimons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
