CRUZ O. DEMENT Cruz "Cookie" Dement, a long-time resident of the Vancouver-Camas area died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in Vancouver. She was born in San Bernardino, CA on May 3, 1919. She settled in the Bay Area and worked for Owens and Illinois Glass Company as a bottle inspector for 33 years. Upon retirement she immersed herself in the communities she lived in by singing in the church choir, volunteering at the local senior center and assisted in translating for the migrant farm workers. Cookie's passion was singing and she belonged to a singing club that performed locally. She is survived by her children, Ronald Dement, Elizabeth Hoops, Paula Winkle and Michael Dement; their spouses and four grandchildren that through the years gave her great joy. Funeral services will be held in California where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Orman L. Dement at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
