Services for Cruz Rios Fernandez, 85, of Caldwell, are set for 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2011, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Fernandez passed away on May 10, 2011, in Rosenberg, Texas. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Fernandez, Mike Anthony Estrada, Manuel Azuara, Nathan Rodriguez, Pete Rodriguez and Julian Gamino. Cruz was born on November 23, 1925, to Calixtro Estrada Rios and Virginia Perez Vasquez in Rio Hondo, Texas. Cruz was very faithful to her church served as a pianist since she was 17 years old and was instrumental in forming the church choir at the Gethsemane Assembly of God Church. Cruz was a caring and compassionate community member as well as a beloved mother and wife, who was also known for her homemade pies. Cruz is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Rafael and Irma Fernandez, Jr. of Jewett, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Tavita and Clyde Reid of Spring, Mary and Henry Martinez of Guy, Texas, Yolanda and Manuel Azuara of Richmond, Sylvia and Kelvin Trlica of Needville, Texas, Irma and Miguel Azuara of Rosenberg, Estella and Jimmy Maddox of Somerville, Texas as well as 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 13 brothers and sisters.
