George Charles Gratchen, CW-4 U.S. Army retired, born September 29, 1929, passed away on December 28, 2011. George was a retired Chief Warrant Officer with the U.S. Army. He also worked for the Newport News Shipyard after retiring. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margot; three children, Joyce Nelson, Rickey Gratchen and Shirley Martin; four grandchildren, Jason Nelson, Britt Nelson, Dawn Stepp and Nicole Mosteller; four great grandchildren, Kylie Zoller, Kenny Stepp, Conner Mosteller and Nicholas Nelson. George is also survived by two brothers, John and Andy Gratchen; a sister, Frances Prata; and son-in-law, Ray Martin. All services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
