D. Sue (Storts) Kell, of Castalian Springs, Tennessee, formerly of Springfield, Ohio passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 14, 2009. She was born in Springfield, Ohio the daughter of Harry W. and Viola (Rodgers) Storts. Sue graduated from Northeastern High School, class of 1956 and then enrolled in the Community Hospital School of Nursing, but eloped with Douglas Kell, June 5, 1957 and began to raise a family. In 1966 she continued her education at Central State University during the tumultuous Civil Rights Movement, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1969. She started teaching in the Springfield City School System. She and her family moved to Tennessee in 1972 and were entrepreneurs for fifteen years returning to Springfield in 1985 for the upcoming birth of her first grandchild. At that time she continued her education completing her Master's Degree in Counseling at the University of Dayton. She also worked at the Clark County Detention Center for seven years and counseled in the Springfield City School System, St. Teresa School, and Northridge Elementary School. She holds the unique title of the only Mrs. Clark County Fair Queen and was active with the fair managing the Women's Building for several years. She was a member of the Lambuth United Methodist Church, in Gallatin, Tennessee, the Lagonda Chapter of D.A.R., and the Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority. Sue is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Douglas Kell of Castalian Springs, Tennessee; two daughters and sons-in-law: Kee Annette (Kell) and Dale Circle of St. Paris, Ohio; and Khristi Ann (Kell) and Earl "Smiley" Fisher of Gallatin, Tennessee; three sisters: Nancy (Storts) Dick of Ripley, Ohio; Ann (Storts) Hill of Enon, Ohio; and Holly (Storts) Marshall of Tennessee; four grandchildren: Case Kell Circle, Bo Kell Circle, Kendle Kell Fisher, and Kell Ann Fisher; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Harry W. Storts Jr., one sister, Joni (Storts) Craig, and two brothers-in-law, Donald Dick and Larry Hill. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Atterholt of the Grafton United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be in the Rose Hill Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Dayton, Ohio; 555 Valley St., Dayton, OH 45404.
