Dale is survived by his wife Harriet "Hat" Gidel; sons, Steve (Barbara) Gidel of North Twin Lakes, and Dave (Mary) Gidel of South Twin Lakes; daughters, Jayne (Steve) Hamilton of Centennial, CO, and Jacqueline (Geoffrey) Dawson of Scottsdale, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Wayne (Mary) Gidel of Clearwater, FL; and sister Beverly (Adrian) McColley of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his infant son Tommy; infant daughter Patricia; his parents, Gilbert and Josephine (Stumpf) Gidel; brothers, Harvey and Gene Gidel; and sisters, Evelyn Waterman, Dorothy Spurgeon, and Maxine Bagnall.
Dale Raymond Gidel was born on October 20, 1922 in Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1941 and attended the University of Iowa where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Force and received his pilot wings at Corpus Christi, Texas Naval Base. Following the War, Dale started in the insurance business in Dallas, Texas, but remained in the Naval Reserve for 15 years. In 1947 he returned to Rockwell City, Iowa, and with his brother, Wayne, opened the Gidel Insurance Agency. After Wayne retired from the Agency, Craig Knop joined the firm and it became the Gidel & Knop Insurance and Real Estate Agency.
On April 24, 1944, Dale was united in marriage with Harriet "Hat" Schlachter in Rockwell City. After his discharge from active duty, they returned from Dallas, Texas and made their home in Rockwell City until moving to North Twin Lakes where they spent the next 20 years. In 1995 they moved to Ankeny, Iowa where they participated in the construction and operation of Briarwood Golf Course. In 1998 they both retired and moved to Banning, California and then to Sun City West, Arizona. In 2004 it was "back home" to Rockwell City.
Throughout his life, Dale was involved with many community projects. He was a longtime member of AmVets, St. Francis Catholic Church, and loved his duties as a football and local parade announcer. Together with Cotton Knapp and other volunteers he was instrumental in the building of the first Rockwell City Swimming Pool. He also served on the Board of Directors responsible for the building of Sunnyview Independent Living. His favorite accomplishment, as a member of the Twin Lakes Restoration Board, was the installation of the water and sewer systems that serve North Twin Lakes.
