Our beloved, Dana Clair Edwards', life was tragically cut short on the first of January 2009.
A 6th generation Texan, she descended from Jacob Wurzbach who came to Texas as the Civil Engineer for the German Immigration Company for Fredericksburg. Born June 30, 1976, her life was full of friends and animals. Dana grew up in Alamo Heights and attended St. Mary's Hall before graduating from Fredericksburg High School where she was the president of the student council, a varsity cheerleader, and honor student. She was a Gillespie County Fair Duchess, a Representative of Central Texas Electric Co-Op in Washington D.C., and a Farm Bureau Princess. After attending undergraduate classes at Southwestern University where she held 1 of 2 Student Board Positions, she went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Texas Tech University where she was a Howard Hughes Fellow.
While in Lubbock, she was a member of the Tri- Delta sorority, Mortar Board Honor Society and the Golden Key Honor Society. Dana Clair attended medical school at the University of Texas and then earned her MBA with highest honors from Texas Tech University. She then returned to San Antonio and utilized her endless creativity to pursue her passion for elegant home design.
Dana Clair was a gifted designer and decorator for the family construction business. Her work was inspired and influenced by a distinguished local architect, Reginald H. Roberts, FAIA, her maternal grandfather. Dana Clair was also a member of Southwest Foundation Forum, Founder's Council of Southwest Research and an officer of the Monte Vista Garden Club. Dana Clair was an avid animal lover.
As a girl, she showed her European Sport horses in Hunter/Jumper competitions. She loved her dogs, Toby and Grit, like children and never tired of making them costumes and collars for special occasions. She was a gardener of everything, plants and people. She was a true Texas woman and her love of life and animals was contagious. She was looking forward to working with the Cibilo Nature Conservancy and the restoration of the Herff Homestead. We hope to all live by her favorite motto: "Wag more bark less." Dana Clair now is shinning with the brightest of stars. She leaves our world with joy, grace and laughter. She would ask us to leave a small footprint on this earth and a large heart for the care of abandoned animals.
Dana Clair is survived by her parents, Darrell and Deborah Edwards, her brother Darrell J. (DJ) Edwards, Jr., aunts and uncles, William and Ann Edwards, Pamela and Henry Bell, III, and numerous other family members and friends who loved her dearly. Special friends; Judy Bishop, science explorer from Saint Mary's Hall; Mrs. Lemajeur, writing; Cornelia Sawatsky and Amy Roberts, Fredericksburg; Barbara Killian from medical school and Melissa Federspill, San Antonio. We thank God for 'Toby' and hope her Jack Russel Terrier 'Grit' will soon be found.
