Passed peacefully at home. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Rosemarie Hernandez Ruiz, sons; Daniel Jr. (fiancé Karen), Miguel and Joaquin, grandchildren; Daniel III, Charles and Alexia, Twin sister Helen Shroyer (John), brother Ralph (Rita) and sister Eleanor Leyva (Jose), mother-in-law Rosa A. Hernandez, brothers-in-law; Art Hernandez (Judith), Ceasar Hernandez (Valerie), Aurelio Hernandez (Lydia), Pedro Hernandez and sister-in-law, Maria Todd (Wayne). Also survived by nephews; Ramon and Alberto Hernandez, great-nephews; Aaron and Gabriel Haffner and nieces; Lori Hernandez-Haffner (Alan), Janielle Flynn (Liam), Cecilia Hernandez and great-niece, Lilyana Martinez-Hernandez, nephews; Jose Leyva (Kelli), Stephen Shroyer, Victor Ruiz (Vanessa), nieces; Adela King (Roger) and Christina Ruiz and many others whom he considered children and close family.Proceeded in death by his loving parents, Adela and Daniel Ruiz, his brother Victor Ruiz, his father-in-law Aurelio Hernandez, brother-in-law Raymond Hernandez and sister-in-law Sophia Hernandez.A native of San Francisco, Dan loved to walk in his beloved Mission District with his animals or just his thoughts. He especially loved to take his dog "Lady" for long walks on Bernal Heights. In life, he loved fishing/hunting and camping with family. He loved to work on cars and owned many Hot Rods! He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, SF (Class of 1964). Dan was a proud member of SF Sheet Metal Local #104 for over 30 years and retired from the trade in 2001. Dan's wonderful laughter, kindness and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank Hospice by the Bay for the compassionate care they provided. Friends and family are invited to visit on Tues., July 7 from 3-9PM and attend a Vigil Service at 7PM at Driscoll's Valencia St. Serra Mortuary, 1465 Valencia St., SF. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Weds. 12PM at St. Peter Church, 1200 Florida St., SF. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
