Daniel I. Cainan age 90 of Seeley Lake, Mt. passed away on Saturday February 4, 2012 at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula. He was born Oct. 12, 1921 in Aurora, Illinois a son of Blethyn and Mary Frances Davies Cainan. At a young age Dan moved with his family to Butte, Mt. and later to the Bitterroot Valley. He finished his first year of High School and then went to work to help support his family. Dan was drafted into WWII in 1942, spending four years in the Army. During his time in the Army Dan earned the following medals, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He married Daisy Dori Morrison and October 21, 1961 and she preceded him in death on January 8, 2000. Dan herded sheep in the Bitterroot Valley then worked at the Safeway Store in Missoula to help support his family. After spending 4 years in the Military he worked for the Missoula Mercantile. He moved to Seeley Lake in 1961 and started several businesses including Dan's Food Market and Dan's Discount. Dan was involved in the Seeley Lake Drift riders Snowmobile Club, Seeley Lake Fire Dept. Seeley Lake Water District, Seeley Lake Ambulance Service, Seeley Lake Senior Citizens, was on the board of directors for the Montana Snowmobile Association, involved in the Seeley Lake Businessman's Association and the Seeley Lake Lions Club. He was a strong supporter of all community organizations and school functions. Dan loved cross country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, hiking, playing horse shoes, pinochle and the coca cola bottle game. He is survived by one brother William Cainan of Helena, Mt. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday Feb. 11, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Seeley Lake Community Hall. Burial will follow at the Seeley Lake cemetery with military graveside honors. In lieu of flowers memorials have been suggested to the Seeley Lake Senior Citizens or a charity of the donor's choice.
