Danny Ray Benton 71, of Mt. Zion, passed away at 2:45 a.m., Wednesday December 4, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Room, Decatur.
The family will celebrate Danny's life with a memorial visitation on Sunday, December 8, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials may be made to the St. John's Children's Hospital / Children's Miracle Network. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
Danny was born October 2, 1942, in Decatur, the son of Raymond B. and Jeanette (Morgan) Benton. He retired from the Mt. Zion Police Department and was a graduate of the Illinois Police Academy in Springfield. He was a man of all trades and had worked in many capacities in home building. He was an avid golfer and even had a hole-in-one at Nelson Golf Course. He also enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.
Surviving is his life companion: Dana of Mt. Zion; daughter: Kim Paslay and her husband Larry of Mt. Zion; grandchildren: Kyle Benton of Chicago, Ryan Paslay of Vail, CO, and Kaitlyn Paslay of Mt. Zion; sister: Marilyn June Delbridge and her husband David of Mt. Zion; brother-in-law: Danny James and his wife Loretta of Anchorage, AK and David Dick of Mt. Zion; sister-in-laws: Teresa Graham and her husband Greg of Jacksonville, FL, Debbie Coy of Tolono, Pam Taft and her husband Robert of Decatur and Lynette Mense of Tolono.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Kelly, brother: Russell and his special canine friend: Sassy
