“David, even though we meet only a couple of times, your smile and kind heart will be missed. May you rest in peace. Debbie Boulier ”

David Austin Rice was born in MI on August 30, 1985; he passed away on January 1, 2013 at the age of 27. His parents are Christine (Broughton) Kirchhoff and James B. Rice. David received loving care and guidance from many people as he grew up, however his stepfather Dennis Buchanan was especially important to him. He is survived by both of his parents and their spouses, Emil Kirchhoff and Brenda Criss, as well as loving aunts, uncles and cousins. David grew up primarily in Brighton, MI and later lived in Royal Oak. After graduating high school he attended Oakland Community College and Oakland University. He was a proud member of Masonic Lodges in Birmingham and Detroit. He turned his high school hobby into a career with a start up business, The Designate, in 2010. David was thrilled to turn his passion for luxury cars and driving into a business venture. The late hours required for a designated driver service suited him perfectly and he loved his work. He often said how lucky he was to get paid for having so much fun. David was a really happy guy. He loved life and lived it on his own terms, often contrary to everyone else's ideas. David pursued his hobbies with enthusiasm, including coin & jewelry collecting and selling some of his finds on eBay with meticulous attention to his photographs and auctions. He loved people and socializing yet maintained a singular lifestyle, always marching to his own drum. David's fast, short life ended far too soon for those who love him. He will be missed so much, and we are left to wonder what might have been. We can only comfort ourselves with the knowledge that he enjoyed his 27 years with us to the utmost; and in his usual style, left us wanting more. Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), Friday, January 11th at 10:00am until memorial service at 2:00pm.
