Funeral services for David Bryan Bates, 93, of Caldwell are set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Providence Baptist Church, with Rev. Corby Brizendine officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery, under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. Mr. Bates passed away on May 1, 2011. Bryan was born March 3, 1918 to John Henry Bates and Lillie Belle Seay in Midway, Texas. Bryan enjoyed playing 42, he liked to travel and loved going to church. Bryan is survived by wife of 19 years, Madeline Groce of Caldwell, sons, Robert Earl Bates of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, James Allen and Sheryl Bates of Baytown, Danny Ray Bates; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Redwing Levy and Norman Levy of Madisonville; step-children, Dennis Holland Groce, Don Leon Groce and Jimmie D. Groce, Gail Ann Weathers, Ricky Groce and Micky Groce; sisters, Elwanda Andrews of Madisonville, Viola Eason of Splendora, Texas; nine grandchildren, fourteen step-grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and twelve step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters. The family suggests memorials to Hospice Brazos Valley, at 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.
