Mr. Looper was born July 27, 1939 and went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2010. He is predeceased by his parents, William Anderson Looper and Elizabeth Hester Looper, as well as three brothers, John Frank Looper, Whitley Looper and Joe Looper. He is survived by three brothers and three sisters.
He is also survived by his wife, Phyllis (Stovall) Looper, his three children, Cynthia Andrews-Looper (Nashville, TN), Susan Harwell (Frank) (Brentwood, TN) and Michael Looper (Linda) (Lexington, SC). In addition, he has six grandchildren, whom he loved dearly: Garrett Looper, Hayden Andrews-Looper, Matthew Looper, Emily Looper, Jack Harwell and Anna Harwell.
Mr. Looper graduated from Dacusville High School and then attended North Greenville College. From there he transferred to Furman University where he completed his Junior year as a Business Major. He went into business for himself in 1969 as a poultry farmer. He ran a successful business for over 15 years, before retiring.
Mr. Looper was baptized at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church as a young man. He loved the Lord and was a strong man of faith. He served as a deacon and young boy’s Sunday school teacher for a number of years at Tabernacle Baptist Church, as well as an interpreter of the deaf ministries. He also worked at WTBI radio station as a Christian D.J. Most recently he had served as a deacon at Freedom Baptist Church, where he and his wife were members. Mr. Looper loved Southern Gospel and the message of hope that the music imparted to those listening. He loved reading his Bible and received great comfort from God’s Word. He loved people and brought joy and laughter to all he met. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Visitation will be held on March 8, 2010 at the Westville Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. with the funeral following in the chapel. Officiating are Dr. Jim Carrigan, Rev. Shawn Rinehart and Rev. Cynthia Andrews-Looper. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Pickens, S.C. Pallbearers are: Don Norris, Jim Ed Looper, Ralph Landreth, Larry Moore, Michael Baideme & Brooks Andrews
The Men’s Sunday School class of Freedom Baptist Church are serving as Honorary Pallbearers. Any memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C.
