David Houston Pettit, 80, of the 300 block of Woodbridge Dr., Chesapeake, VA, passed away November 8, 2011, in his home. A native of Mt. Sidney, VA, he retired from the National Guard after 30 years and as a Field Representative for Grumman Aerospace after 20 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ann Pettit; his parents, Charles Pettit and Mary Harman Hanger; and a brother, Danny Hanger. He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Pettit of Chesapeake, VA; three sons, Keith Pettit, Scott Pettit and wife Melody, both of Chesapeake, VA and Brian Pettit and wife Pamela of Williamsburg, VA; six grandchildren, Clayton Davis, Nikki Goodrich, Brianne Twiford, Ashley Pettit, Scott Pettit and Alexandria Pettit; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Julia Orebaugh of Harrisonburg, VA and Becky Root of Mt. Sidney, VA. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011, in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to American Cancer Society.
