Our loving father and grandfather, David Kent Herbert, was met by his eternal companion, Carla Marie Davis Herbert, and their son, Donald Lance Herbert, when he passed away peacefully on June 21, 2011. David was born on March 6, 1945 in Springville, Utah to Robert Elwood (HAP) and Zerma Ann Davis Herbert. He graduated from Springville High School and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Enviromental Technology. David married Carla Marie Davis on June 17, 1966 in Salem, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple.
David worked for Payson City for 30 years. His hobbies and interests include entertaining in many ways like singing in a band and playing the guitar. He really enjoyed performing in the community theater throughout Utah County with his family during the majority of his life. He performed in productions like Fiddler on the Roof, Music Man, Peter Pan, Annie, and Footloose. He also enjoyed spending time with his family in the outdoors doing fishing, hunting, camping and four wheeling.
One of David’s greatest accomplishments was that he faithfully served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Perth Australia Mission. His most enjoyable callings in the church were teaching the youth in the primary and Sunday school.
David is survived by four children: Derren (Cindy) Herbert, Marva Herbert and Jennifer Herbert, all of Payson, Utah, and David (Shalene) Herbert of Olympia, Washington. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Heather (Tom) Halladay, Brittany (Gene) Hutchison, Zachary, Trevor, Gregory, Megan, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Alyssa, Talya, and Tiffany Herbert. Siblings, Gary (Carma) Herbert, Phyllis (Lyle) Lyman, and Judith Herbert. He is preceded in death by his wife Carla, son Donald, parents, a sister Anna Pearl and a brother Robert.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11:00 am at the West Mountain Third Ward, 902 West 400 North, Payson. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson Sunday from 6-8 pm or at the church on Monday from 9:45 – 10:45 am. Burial will be in the Payson Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Mountain View ICU Doctors and Staff. A special thank you goes to Doctors James Rose Jr. and T. Al-Shuqairat.
