In Memory of David Leer Kalnin, a Friend of the Universe.
David left this earthy world suddenly on January 14, 2012. He will be remembered for his scholarly conversations on diverse subjects, his resilience to never give up and his plans for the future.
David was born in San Francisco, California December 10, 1949. Soon after his birth, he was adopted by Fred Karl Kalnin and Florence Leer. David lived most of his life in Lodi and Stockton, California. He spent about five years in Merced and Fresno, California where he went to college and got an AA Degree in photography and art. In 1981 David vacationed in Hawaii. There he met his wife Doris Salley. They fell in love and married. They set up residence and spent three unforgettable years of island bliss. After living briefly in Hawaii, they moved back to Lodi. There he was a substitute teacher and graphic artist.
David was an unusual person. His interests and talents were so eclectic. He was an avid reader, an amateur magician, an accomplished jazz organist, a passionate gardener and a loving husband. His favorite activities included riding his Harley, driving his BMWZ3 in rallies on the California Coast and in the sierra foothills. He also loved playing with his pet terriers.
David will be missed by his wife of 30 years, his many friends around the world and his pets, Arabella and Max.

Silently falling,
First one and then another
Our tears of aloha.
