David H. MacKelcan, age 57 of Wilmington, DE passed away quietly in the arms of his wife, Laura (Enterline) MacKelcan on Monday April 26, 2010 after a brief illness. Dave was the son of Martha MacKelcan and the late Douglas Walker MacKelcan, MD. In addition to his wife and two young children, Rachel and Davis, he leaves behind 4 siblings: Mary Lee MacKelcan, Douglas W. “Chip” MacKelcan Jr., Donald G. MacKelcan, and Martha H. MacKelcan as well as several much loved nieces and nephews.

Dave graduated from the Blue Ridge School in Charlottesville, VA in 1970 and earned a degree in Education from the University of Delaware and a Business degree from Goldey-Beacom. A brief teaching career included a year at the St. Louis Country Day School and another at Wilmington Friends School.

Under his mentor, the late Peter C. Townsend, Dave became skilled in the IT business sector and subsequently spent many years as an IT Project Manager in the banking industry.

Dave was a natural born athlete. In his youth he excelled at swimming and basketball and was a Virginia All-State athlete. Later he became a champion in racquet ball, squash, tennis and golf. He also coached a variety of students and youth including his own children. Dave was fortunate to have enjoyed enduring friendships, including a group of especially close friends who made an annual trip to his family’s vacation home on Kezar Lake in Center Lovell, Maine. Dave was a member of Kennett Friends Meeting and a board member of Avon Grove Charter School.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday May 1, 2010, at Kennett Friends Meeting House, in Kennett Square, PA.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to American Friends Service Committee Development, 1501 Cherry St. Philadelphia, PA 19102 or The Blood Bank of Delaware, 100 Hygeia Dr., Newark, DE 19713.
