Mr. David Milton Cornell

I worked at Heritage of Hot Springs for several years, left there in the spring of this year. At the time I left Heritage, my office was on 'A' hall (a.k.a. Moody Hall) right across the hall from David's room. David was one of my favorites! He was grumpy and would get so very frustrated if he couldn't do something he wanted to do without asking for help. I would always try to jump up and run over to help

I worked at Heritage of Hot Springs for several years, left there in the spring of this year. At the time I left Heritage, my office was on 'A' hall (a.k.a. Moody Hall) right across the hall from David's room. David was one of my favorites! He was grumpy and would get so very frustrated if he couldn't do something he wanted to do without asking for help. I would always try to jump up and run over to help him get his massive wheelchair through the doorway so he wouldn't get hung up and have one of his 'David fits', as I called them, when he was trying to get in and out of his room. David was a person who, if you didn't know him well, did not appear to be someone you would want to know...but, if you did take the time to talk to David, you would find that he had a big old heart of solid gold! When I saw his face smiling back at me from the obituary this morning, I could hear his gravely old voice saying, "you're a nice lady" as he did so often when he passed by my office or when I went into his room to help him. When he would fall trying to get in and out of bed, I would run in to check on him and he'd always say, "I'm all right..." as soon as I got through the doorway because he didn't want anyone to worry about him or fuss at him for getting up without help. I remember sitting with him in the lobby (and in his other room that he was able to keep all his phones in) and and listening to him talk about his phones...and, I remember the day that I took one of my friends, whose dad was at Heritage, over to talk with David about the phones. This guy had worked with a local phone company for 30+ years and he and David had a ball looking at all the phones and talking about all the changes that had taken place over the years!
I'm very sorry to read of David's passing, but, there's a part of me that's glad, too. David was ready to go...he was tired. He loved and looked forward to seeing and talking on the phone to his special friend, Judy, but I think he was ready to get rid of his aching and twisted body and move on to a better place to rest. I just have a feeling that Jesus knows a lot more about phones today than he did a few weeks ago! Rest in peace, my friend.....
