David Rankin Craig, 87, of Naples, FL passed away on February 10, 2012. He was born in Boston, MA to parents David and Eleanor Craig. Mr. Craig graduated from Sidwell Friends School of Washington D.C. and attended Princeton University, class of 1946, during which time he was a member of the Triangle Club. Upon the US entry into WWII, he volunteered for the US Navy and was transferred to Cornell University as part of the V-12 officer training program. He graduated from Cornell in early 1945 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Craig served on the USS Ancon in the Pacific Theater, as part of the Strategic Bombing Survey team in Tokyo during the occupation of Japan. Several years later, he finished his military service as a Lieutenant in the US Naval Reserve.
After returning to civilian life Mr. Craig attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his MBA.
During the 1950's he was employed by Hazeltine Corporation and Airborne Instruments Corporation. He was a Co-Founder and served as Secretary and Treasurer of Cardion Electronics in Woodbury, Long Island, NY until 1966. He spent the rest of his career at Grumman Aerospace as Director of Procurement Policy & Systems, retiring in 1988.
While a resident of Long Island, NY he served as Trustee of the Village of Brookville and as President of the Brookville Taxpayers Association.
After retiring to Naples, Florida as a full-time resident, Mr. Craig served as Treasurer of the Moorings Property Association and as President and board member. He served as a director of the Princeton Club of Southwest Florida and as President from 1997 to 1998. He was also Member at Large of Former Collier County Sheriff Don Hunter's Commission as well as a member of the Save The Bay Association.
Mr. Craig was a longtime member of the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club of Port Washington, Long Island, NY, and later, the Naples Yacht Club and the Forum Club of Southwest Florida.
Mr. Craig is survived by his loving wife Lorna McLean Craig of Naples, FL; his son David Rankin Craig Esq., daughter-in-law Jodi Anmarie Craig and grandson Alton David Craig, all of New Boston, NH; his son Douglas Woods Craig of Naples, FL; his grandson Joshua David Stamell and granddaughter Ann Palmer Stamell, both of Santa Monica, California; and was preceded in death by his daughter Palmer Wilson Craig Stamell.
The family will be holding a private ceremony with interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
