David Roger Hewitt Sr., 82, of Summit, MS., passed away on August 23, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 P.M. until services at 3 PM at the Mars Hill Baptist Church in Summit. Dr. David Millican will officiate and burial will be in Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hewitt was born in Amite County, MS on January 25, 1931. He is the son of the late, Howard H. and Amazon Wilson Hewitt.

Mr. Hewitt was a graduate of Mars Hill High School and retired from the Illinois Central Railroad with 33 years of service. He also owned and operated Hewitt's Egg Farm and the well-known "Egg Drive-In" in McComb.

After retiring from the railroad, he continued to work as an over-the-road truck driver for North American Van Lines. Friends and family knew him as an avid gardner, fisherman and Braves fan, and he enjoyed many years of camping with Mrs. Lou and their "camping buddies." Mr. Hewitt was a 58-year member of the John A. Quitman Masonic Lodge #244 at Auburn, having served three terms as Past Master. He was a lifelong member of Mars Hill Baptist Church where he served many years as Church Treasurer.

It has been said of Mr. Hewitt that no man could be found of higher character. His motto was "The evidence of a life well-lived is not in what you have, but in what you give," and he lived as an example of serving the Lord by serving others.

He is preceded by his parents, a wife, Lou B. Hewitt; four brothers, Wilton Hewitt, H.H. Hewitt Jr., Hillary T. Hewitt and Dr. Benton E, Hewitt; two sisters, Melqwinn Hewitt Pate and Emily Hewitt May and one daughter in-law, Dale Paulk.

He is survived by six children, David Roger Hewitt Jr., and wife Pat, Shelia Hewitt, Jimmy Paulk, Jeff Paulk and wife, Lisa, Jacquelyn Paulk Alexander and husband, Jeff and Joseph Hewitt; eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kris Paulk, Cole Paulk, Chase Paulk, Wes Paulk, Clay Paulk, Kane Howell, Matthew Paulk and Austin Paulk.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the John A. Quitman Lodge #244 F. & A.M, Webb Umberger, Walter Chisolm, Roger Brumfield, Douglas Johnston, Robert Johnson, Harold Johnston, Johnny Wayne Nevels, R.H. Nunnery, Doyle Nunnery, Charles Lee Townsend, James Keen, Glen Jackson, W.I. Westbrook, Joe Landreneau and Kenneth Allred.
