David Ronald Brookshire passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. He was finally reunited with the love of his life, Sybil. He leaves behind to cherish his memories and love, two children, Kelly and Charles Brookshire, sister Pat MacLean and husband Cam, and a brother, Atwell Brookshire and wife Betty. He also leaves two grandchildren, Maria and Mark Mayorga. Surviving in addition to his immediate family are James and Joan McGinnis, Wesley and Sharon Thomas, Mike and Pat McGinnis, Steve and Carol McGinnis, mother in-law, Geraldine McGinnis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father and mother, Dewey and Doris Brookshire, wife of 42 years, Sybil, brother Dewey Brookshire Jr., and sister Beverly Ellerman. In addition to being a very loving husband and father, he was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard. He worked at Belk for 32 years, serving as a store manager in the Inlet Square Mall for 12 of those years. David was a devoted, lifelong member of Masonboro Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School director, and chair of numerous committees. He was an instrumental part of building the new sanctuary. David was also a very active member of The Gideons International Wilmington South Camp for 8 years. The family would like to thank the staff of Cypress Pointe Rehabilitation Center, the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their loving care in the final stage of David's life. The family would like to give a special thank you to his "Earth Angel" Selena for her love and kindness to David and his family. Her service will never be forgotten. Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9: 00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Masonboro Baptist Church by the Rev. David Stewart. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of The Gideons International Wilmington South Camp. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International Wilmington South Camp, PO Box 15679, Wilmington, NC 28408.
