David Stewart Jr., 78, of Prospect Park, formerly of Norwood, a World War II veteran, died May 21 at Lankenau Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Prospect Park for 41 years and was a graduate of West Philadelphia High School, Friends Select, 1947. He was a clerk for Sun Oil, retiring in 1987 after 40 years. A World War II Navy veteran, he served on the USS Boxer and was an athletic director and basketball coach at Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trade. A footbal referee for the Delco Chapter of PIAA, he was a member of Prospect Park Masonic Lodge 578. He was a member of the Proclamation Presbyterian Church and a former member of Norwood Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Sr. and Jane Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Edna Balentine Stewart; son, David Stewart of Narberth; daughters, Gail Everhart of Lancaster and Cathy Finley of Prospect Park; sisters, Betty Dean of Lancaster and Bernice Krick of Glenolden; six grandsons. Interment Arlington Cemetery, Upper Darby. Memorial donations to The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trade, 106 S. New Middletown Road, Media, Pa. 19063.
