Davis "David" Sheu Sun Wong, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born in China on April 4, 1938 to Park F. Wong and Soon G. Eng and immigrated to the U.S. in 1950. After graduating from Maury High, he started working at his family's noodle business, Norfolk Noodle Factory. There David found his passion for making noodles. In 1992, he and his wife of 37 years founded Sun Noodle & Food Corp. in Chesapeake, VA. With his career spanning over 50 years, David's greatest joy and reward came from making noodles. With customers from several generations, his noodles (yock-a-mein) were well-known and loved throughout the Hampton Roads area. He also served the community as a member of the Chinese Community Center and the Wong's Family Association. Always thinking of others before himself, David lived his life according to his core values of hard-work, integrity, generosity, and positivity. No matter the difficulty, he faced each of life's challenges with high spirits. David is survived by his wife, May Wong and daughter Celina Wong; mother-in-law, Yuen Mak Chan; brothers, Arthur Wong, and Edward Wong and wife Ping Wong; sister, Jenny Wong Slaughter; brother-in-law, Mark Slaughter; brother-in-law, Ming Yeung and wife Mae Yeung; sister-in-law, Yee Lau; brother-in-law, Peter Chan and wife Kate Chan; brother-in-law, Daniel Mui and wife Jacinta Mui; brother-in-law, Chow Wong and wife Grace Wong. David will also be sorely missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Bon Wong officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Chinese Community Association of Hampton Roads, 722 Newtown Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
