Our beautiful mother, Debbie Jean Sevier (Oldham) was born on July 11, 1940, 3 months premature. She was so small she could fit into a cigar box! She struggled to survive and survive she did! Early in life it was just her and her mother living back east. Around the age of 7 she moved to CA with her mom, where her mother met a man who had a step-father named Melvin Skovmand. After hardship of Melvin loosing his wife, Debbie loosing her mother, and Melvin loosing his step-son, Melvin decided to raise Debbie. The cutest part of this story, it was not until Melvin was in his 80's when he officially adopted his little girl Debbie!
She married James Sevier and had 3 daughters, Michelle, Nicole, and Paulette. Jim and Debbie divorced when the kids where little, but they had a good friendship even after wards. She became a 3 time Grandmother to Melanie, Morgan, and Madison. She loved her grandchildren and her life will be carried on through them.
Our mother worked for Eden Hospital for 28 years!!! The first 8 years on the 5th floor and her last 20 years in ICU. She loved her work and loved all her coworkers. She was always smiling and laughing and giving a piece of her heart to everyone she met.
About 2 years ago mom started having problems walking. We thought it was her back (she had injured it at home). But after extensive doctor visits, they concluded she had ALS. Mom fought those 2 years and always kept faith that she would get better.
On May 23, 2010 at 4:45pm, she took her last breath with her daughters holding her hand, and in the ICU unit where she worked those 20 years. She was surrounded by love and still has more love than any person I ever met.
She will be greatly missed by all but will live in our hearts and memories forever.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Debbie's name to ALS Research.
