Mrs. Denise A. “Denny” (Sullivan) Cullen, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away on Wednesday morning March 30, 2011 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 74 years old.
Denise Sullivan was born on July 14, 1936 in Cambridge, one of three children of the late Arthur J. Sullivan and Genevieve (Tucy) Sullivan.
Raised in Arlington, she was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1954 and attended Northeastern University. She worked for 30 years as a documentation specialist in the computer technology field for several large companies.
Denise or “Denny” as she was affectionately known, enjoyed the blessings of eighteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren as well as many loving friends. Known by her friends as the "Networker," she was the family historian, and photographer. Denny lived life to the fullest; she loved her Sunday drives to nowhere with her husband Bill, was an avid gardener, and loved a yard sale, but was most passionate about watching her family blossom.
Denny was the loving wife and soulmate of William L. Cullen of Wakefield and wife of the late Lewis A. Whitaker Jr. Beloved mother of Lewis A. Whitaker III and his wife Maureen of WA, Theresa A. Whitaker of Wakefield, and Kevin D. Whitaker and his late wife Leslie of Wakefield. She is preceded into Heaven by her daughter, Sharon D. Gillingham. Dear mother-in-law of Robert Gillingham of Burlington. Stepmother of Michael Cullen of PA, David Cullen and his wife Marisa of NC, Christopher Cullen of PA, and Cheryl Cabral and her husband Victor of Beverly. Dear sister of Arthur J. Sullivan, Jr. of FL and Kevin C. Sullivan and his wife Beth of CA. Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St, Melrose on Thursday, April 7 at 9:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8PM. Gifts may be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Fund, 89 South St. Ste 406, Boston, MA 02111.
