Dennis Mitchell Ketron was born on August 22, 1954 and lost his battle with cancer on October 8, 2011. Dennis grew up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and after graduating from North Idaho College moved to Portland, Oregon where he earned his teaching degree, minoring in Black History, from Lewis and Clark College. Dennis loved to travel and had visited over 15 countries in his lifetime. He logged nearly 40,000 miles as an avid Volks-walker, and walked almost all the U. S. state capitols. Dennis was a dedicated volunteer. He began his volunteer service with the Mother's March of Dimes while he was still in Junior High. He most recently made the Polar Bear Plunge, benefiting Special Olympics, and even after having just found out about his illness, Dennis still helped the elderly prepare their taxes earlier this year. Dennis leaves behind a loving family and an extended family of dear friends. Dennis' memorial service will be held Friday, October 14th, at 10 am, at the Hillsboro First Congregational Church, 494 East Main Street, Hillsboro, Oregon. Rev. Amy Jones will officiate. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dennis' doctors and nurses at Providence Hospice, and the Visiting Angels, for their support in caring for their brother. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you volunteer your time to a charity of your choice, in order to honor Dennis' legacy of service to his community.
