Dennis R. Popa, 66, of Stevens Mills Drive, North Troy, VT died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, FL.

Denny was born in Galion on January 12, 1943 to the late Joseph and Nellie (Day) Popa.

He had lived in Vermont for the past 15 years having moved from New Port Richey, FL. He retired in 1999 after working in the U. S. Merchant Marine for the previous 25 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during the Vietnam War. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both of Galion. Denny enjoyed his Appaloosa horses. He was an avid ham radio operator; call letters K8QMC. He loved fishing, so much so, that he summered in Vermont and wintered in Florida so that he could fish the year 'round.

He is survived by his sister JoEllen and Ken Ruehle, Port Clinton, his nephews Marc and Rozani Ruehle, Sunny Isles, FL, Ryan Ruehle, Columbus and his special friend Harriet Johanessen.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 18, 2009 after 10:00 a.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Neil Gilliland officiating. Full military honors will follow, conducted by the U. S. Navy and the Galion/Crestline veterans groups. Interment for the family will be in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , in care of the funeral home.
