Dennis Wayne "Dee" Schroeder, 61, of Brenham, died June 19, 2011 at his residence, after a lengthy battle with cancer. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Pastor David Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Dee was born October 18, 1949, in Brenham, Texas, to Harven and Adela (Hinze) Schroeder. He was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. He was a 1968 graduate of Brenham High School, a 1970 graduate of Blinn College and a 1972 graduate of Sam Houston State University. On December 23, 1972, he was married to Patricia Ann Ehlert in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. From 1972 to 1974, Dee served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam era with the 81st Pershing Missile Battalion. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill and was retired from employment as an engineering specialist with the Texas Department of Transportation. Survivors include his wife Pat; mother, Adela Schroeder; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Anne and Jerome Cavner of Brenham; granddaughter, Samantha Star Cavner; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Rebecca Schroeder, James and Kathryn Schroeder, all of Brenham, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Sue Wernecke of Austin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Harven Schroeder; brother, Rickey Schroeder; and an infant sister, Elizabeth. Serving as pallbearers are Dee's nephews: Scott Wernecke, John Gay, Chad Gerke, Scott Schroeder, Jon Schroeder, Brett Schroeder, and Wayne Ehlert. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Raj Cheruku, members of the SFOA of College Station, and employees of TxDOT of Brenham. Memorials may be given to Hospice Brazos Valley of Brenham or to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham.
