Columbia - Funeral service for Derrick Emory Britt, 18, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Derrick died October 9, 2009. Born October 22, 1990, in Columbia, he was a son of Emily Jr. and Margaret “Peggy” Cherry Britt. A 2009 Graduate of Cardinal Newman High School, he had been accepted into Johnson and Wales University Culinary Arts Program. Derrick, an Eagle Scout, enjoyed camping and outdoor activities with Scouting. He cherished time spent with family and friends, music and laughter, PC gaming, Camp Kemo and, Lasting Impressions "LI" activities.
Surviving are his parents of Columbia; siblings, Allison Brown of Chipley, Fla., Michelle and Caitlin Britt, both of Columbia; grandparents, Dorothy Britt, Campbellton, Fla., Margaret Cherry, Orland Park, Ill., Thomas Cherry, Port St. Lucy, Fla.; a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and friends.
