Derrick Jack Miller, 49, of Albany died Wednesday at his home. Derrick was born in Albany to Donna (Draper) and Warren Dale Miller, Sr. He grew up in a military family and lived in Germany for a time. With the exception of his time traveling while in the US Army, Derrick was a lifelong Albany resident. He attended South Albany High School and then received his associate degree from Linn-Benton Community College in business. On October 31, 2002, Derrick married Dateria Evans in Albany. Over the last 15 years, Derrick traveled to all 50 states. He most recently worked for Rhodes Retail Services in sales. He enjoyed boating and restoring old fiberglass boats. He was also a drummer and a founding member of the "Cellar Dwellers". He served as a Scout Master while his son Austin was in scouting. Derrick is survived by his wife Dateria Miller; children Mitchel Miller of Ontario, Austin Miller, Athena Miller, and Tim Miller, all of Albany; brothers David Miller of Eugene, Dusten Miller of Indiana and Jack Schneider of Albany; sister Kate Draper of Albany; and mother Donna Draper Schneider of Albany. He was preceded in death by his father; his infant son Anthony Miller; and his brothers Ron Miller and Warren Dale "Butch" Miller, Jr. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Evangelical Church with committal following at Willamette Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Scouting or the Miller family to help with expenses, and sent in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.
