SANDERS-Detective Geri Sanders, age 60, of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, March 14, 2010, after her battle with cancer. Geri was a 20 year veteran of the Albuquerque Police Dept., where she served for 15 years as a detective in the Crimes Against Children Unit as well as the APD Honor Guard, Bike Patrol, Field Officer, and Recruiting and Background. Geri was always happy and had a contagious laugh, loved her family and her extended APD family, was a great encourager. She is survived by her mother, Mary Sanders, two sisters, Lillie Allen and husband Dr. Larry, Betty Warrior; two brothers, JR Sanders and wife Joyce, Gregg Sanders and wife Robyn; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; a great-great-nephew; a God-daughter; and her APD family. A celebration of Geri’s life will be held Thursday, March 18, at 10:00 AM, at New Life Baptist Church, 6900 Los Volcanes Rd. NW with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and fellow officers Wednesday, March 17, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at the Academy Police Chapel, 5300 2nd St. NW. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Geri Sanders Cancer Fund through US New Mexico Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 129, Albuquerque, NM 87103.
