Old Forge – Diane Austin Desnoyers, 59, of Old Forge passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2013 at her home. She was born July 5, 1953, in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of Dr. Bert P. and Marie (Soule) Austin. Diane attended Utica Catholic Academy and earned her Associate's degree in nursing at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica. She began her career working for her father, Dr. Bert P. Austin, at his French Road offices. Following graduation, Diane went on to work at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Department, the office of Dr. Charles J. Eldredge as a dialysis nurse at St. Luke's Hospital, and lastly at the former Town of Webb Health Center, from where she retired. Diane was united in marriage with Robert G. Desnoyers on November 4, 1996 in Utica. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Old Forge, and was active in both Hospice and HASCA. She looked forward to spending time with family and friends at the family camp on White Lake. Diane enjoyed hiking and canoeing and the beauty and peace of the Adirondacks. During her free time, she found much enjoyment trying new recipes and creating meals in her kitchen. Occasionally, she would prepare some tasty treat for the customers at the Old Mill Restaurant. Diane enjoyed reading, and spending time with her ever present canine and feline companions. Survivors include her husband, Bob; siblings Peter (Jean) Austin of WI, Pam (John) Laurenzi of FL, Dan Austin of West Winfield, Michael (Yvonne) Austin of VA, Andrea (Ralph) Cianfarano of Fulton, Valerie Austin of OH, and Melanie Potaczala of New Hartford; many nieces and nephews; and Pablo and Nutmeg, her cat and chocolate Lab. Her family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the Old Forge Fire Department and Ambulance for their prompt response and valiant efforts, and to their numerous friends for their support and compassion. Diane greatly valued the special friendships she shared with her co-workers at the town of Webb offices. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St.Bartholomew's Church, 103 Crosby Blvd, Old Forge. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. There are no public calling hours.
