Patricia "Diane" Burdine Dyson, 61, daughter of Mae and Cooter Burdine, passed away
at home in Ontario, Oregon, on Friday July 6th after a long battle with cancer. She is
originally from McNeil, Arkansas and a former resident of south Arkansas. She was
born on January 1, 1951 in Ruston, Louisiana. She graduated from Magnolia High
School in 1969 and later in life went back to college at Southern Arkansas University
where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology. She had a career
working in nursing homes for approximately 19 years eventually becoming licensed as a
nursing home administrator.
She re-dedicated her life to her Savior, Jesus Christ, and became a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while working in Camden. She retired from
work due to return of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She accepted an invitation from her
dear LDS missionary friend, Sister Julie Wade, to move to Oregon and receive
treatment at Mountain States Tumor Institute. As a strong member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she never questioned the Lord's will for her, but
served with her heart wherever possible. While there she attained remission twice,
sadly the lymphoma returned and spread rapidly.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her two brothers Carl Burdine, and spouse Cindy of Magnolia,
Arkansas, and Michael Burdine, and spouse Sharon of Little Rock, Arkansas; three
daughters, Cori Dyson, and spouse Sarah Barrett of Texarkana, Arkansas, Melanie
Dyson McVay, and spouse Robert of El Dorado, Arkansas, and Lisa Dyson, and spouse
Elvira Arteaga of Washington, D.C.; 4 grandchildren Jennifer and Giovanni Garcia, and
Layla and Malena Dyson-Arteaga all of Washington, D.C.; two Aunts, Francille Baker
Labat, and spouse Lester of Vacherie, Louisiana, and Margaret Baker Lucas of
Richmond, Virginia; two nephews, three nieces, one great nephew, and many cousins.
She is loved and remembered by many friends. She is also survived by her dear friend
and caregiver, Julie Wade of Ontario, Oregon.
The family will gather at Mike and Brenda Sue Butler's home in Magnolia, Arkansas
Thursday, July 12th through Saturday, July 14th for meals and fellowship. Visitation will be
at Lewis Funeral Home, 420 North Jackson, Magnolia, Arkansas for friends and family will
be at 7:30 PM on Friday.. The funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints, 859 Lakewood Rd., Camden, Arkansas on Saturday, July
14, 2012 at 2:00 PM and visitation will precede the service. She will be interred at New
Hope Cemetery in McNeil, Arkansas.
